SOCIAL NEWS

"OWLS Club reunion and Lunch". The weather was kind, yet again, and we had a good turnout, although no true vintage bikes. So many members have bought themselves new (to them) bikes over the last year, the old bikes stayed in the garage. We even had an electric bike! Our short run out of 34 miles (1hr 25 mins), with 13 riders, was a delight through; Edenbridge, Lingfield, East Grinstead, Forrest Row, Hartfield (via Pooh corner) and back via Hever. A light lunch and lots of chat after. Thanks to Jenny for supplying and setting out lunch. Yum.

Unfortunately we didn't quite manage the group photo this year so the 2024 remains our welcome banner but luckily Bob managed a couple of informal photos.

Next Social event: With the longer evenings we return to our Boules (Pétanque) night. This is held at the Chequeres Pub, Cray Road, Crockenhill. BR8 8LP

TOURING NEWS

Many members may not be aware but OWLS do organise motorbike tours, as well as day road runs. We have just completed a hugely successful 5 day (28th April - 2nd May) tour to the Normandy Beaches in France, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Staying in the pretty and rural village of Ryes, our base was ideal for “ride-outs” to war grave cemeteries, museums as well as beaches. The country roads were perfect for enjoyable riding with little traffic (outside of the villages), sweeping bends and wooded sections. The weather was extremely kind (as it has been in the UK), almost too hot!

A light hearted visit to William the Conqueror's birthplace

We comprised 7 OWLS members and our guest guide, George, who, with his military background, was ideally placed to research and convey to us just some of the imporant events that took place. There is so much still to discover. Maybe we'll arrange another tour in 2026?
